Technology Curriculum

 4th Grade
Students will be taught a lot of new things this year.  Students begin the year by working on Google Applications.  After students work with the Google Apps, we turn to a website called code.org to build our base of coding.

5th Grade
5th Grade is an extension and review of 4th grade.  Students use the same applications but we take a deeper dive into our projects and build more complex projects. Then, we begin work with Project Lead the Way units that tie into 5th grade science topics. Students will get the cross content experience of STEM by mixing science with technology while learning about patterns in space as well as how energy flows through ecosystems.

6th Grade
6th Grade uses PLTW  for a class called Design and Modeling.  In Design and Modeling, you will learn engineering techniques such as different types of sketches, as well as, 3D printing.  PLTW is a very student centered approach and requires that students think on their feet while solving problems.  At the end of the course, you will design and create a toy.

7th Grade
This class is all about graphic design and entrepreneurship! Students will learn tools like photoshop while using skills they learn to create business cards, alter logos, and more! Among these skills they will be able to match colors in a creation based on a photo, remove objects from pictures using AI, add objects from other photos to a new background, and much more. They also will review businesses and create their own.

8th Grade
Over the course of the class, cover various units that cover STEM topics and explore different careers. We use PLTW Science of Technology curriculum. This includes applied chemistry, nanotechnology, and understanding simple machines, drafting and using the design process. Students will be thinking critically and developing problem solving skills necessary in the 21st Century.
